Project

Published by ajennings

In the spirit of communication and having an online space, I figure I should write a little bit about what my final project for EFL 537 will involve.

I have been working in a wonderful ESOL self-contained classroom since November, 2007, with first and second grade students. I wanted to take advantage of the wonderful learning opportunities that this classroom environment offers and show my classmates some of the creative ways to incorporate the 4 language domains- speaking, listening, reading and writing- in a lesson plan.

In past years I have used reader’s theater to introduce students to new reading techniques and especially to help build their confidence and fluency in reading and speaking. I will be trying this technique again, although I have to say that I’ve never worked with such a low-level group of students for this type of activity before. I will be capturing our work times together on video and then importing them to the computer for editing. I will then put together a presentation using video clips from my class and powerpoint slides to show the reader’s theater process and highlight some of the valuable skills gained throughout the lesson.
